It is not known whether Heinrich Harrer was a good singer, but without doubt, he certainly became the best-known townsman of this community with 10,673 inhabitants. Born on 6 July, 1912 in Hüttenberg, the alpinist, author and professor became famous for the first ascent of the North face of the Eiger and his book “Seven Years in Tibet”.
A visit to the Heinrich Harrer Museum in Hüttenberg is a must for anyone interested in this remarkable man. The museum houses a collection of over 4,000 exhibits and is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 from May 1 to October 31.
