Andreas See (A) – Saxophone
Horst Michael Schaffer (A) – Trumpet, TrombonePOP HORN SECTION WORKSHOP
How do horns work in pop music? What do pop producers want to hear? What does the song need? How does a horn section find the fine line between “overly intellectual” jazz and dull sustained notes?
These and other questions will be answered by Andreas and Horst-Michael in their workshops. They’ll give you insights into the work of a horn section in “pop mode.” Participants will arrange horn parts for various styles and songs, exploring the nuances of interplay and phrasing.
The workshop also covers “solo playing in pop music”:
How do you improvise as a horn player in pop? How much jazz is allowed? How can you sound interesting with minimal material? In addition, Andreas and Horst-Michael provide practical tips for trumpet, saxophone, and trombone players — from instrument choice, microphone technique, and in-ear monitoring to live and studio work.
