Instrumental Master Classes
Sold outDetailed information
"Playing the Steirische Harmonika" sometimes means much more than just playing the Steirische Harmonika - "a blessing and a curse" is sometimes attributed to this instrument with a wink. At the beginning it is relatively easy to learn, later it is difficult to understand and becomes increasingly complex, regionally it applies It is incredibly popular, but it is not very well established in the classical or popular cultural scene. It is probably more closely linked to Alpine folk music than any other instrument, but at the same time it can only be used with increased effort in other styles. My vision is to give the Styrian harmonica ( in addition to its valuable traditional qualities) to open up new possibilities in terms of different playing styles, literary diversity, forms of transmission and professional presentation. What could actually be part of a future path for the Steirische Harmonika will be asked, explained and tested in this two-day intensive course on the Steirische Harmonika.

Christoph Moschberger is a prime example of applied musical versatility. He defies categorization, transcending the boundaries of not just a lead, jazz, pop, or brass band trumpeter, but rather embodies, as his impressive list of references attests, a multifaceted musician. Within the ranks of renowned German radio big bands, he accompanies international jazz luminaries. Standing in the spotlight or in front of television cameras, he shares the stage with major rock and pop acts. In the "Kleine Egerländer Besetzung" and Thomas Gansch's "Blasmusik Supergroup," he expresses his passion for the traditional form of wind music. Venturing into new realms with "Federspiel," he graces grand concert halls such as the Konzerthaus Wien and the Elbphilharmonie.
In the midst of this musical balancing act, Christoph Moschberger effortlessly shapes his own artistic identity, never appearing arbitrary. This quality sets him apart as one of the most intriguing trumpet soloists of his generation.
In 2019, his debut solo album, "Home," was released in collaboration with "da Blechhaufn." His new solo album, in partnership with the WDR Funkhausorchester Köln, is set to be released in 2024.
WORKSHOP
Christoph Moschberger is not only an exceptional trumpeter but also an inspiring teacher. In the workshop, he shares his personal approach to playing the trumpet and presents his key exercises that keep him, as a professional trumpeter, adept across diverse genres. Alongside fundamental brass-related topics like breathing, embouchure, and technique, Christoph emphasizes practical subjects such as intelligent practicing, stress management, stylistic flexibility, and authentic interpretation. The workshop lasts for approximately 2 hours and is tailored to trumpeters or flugelhorn players of all ages with experience at an intermediate level (Silver/Gold). Beginners are welcome to attend as passive participants. Participants should bring their own instruments.

The participants can expect a diverse program: Aside from one-on-one lessons, ensemble playing and various workshops (body percussion, among others), there is also the opportunity to dive into the world of improvisation. For all those who already have improvisation experience, this course will serve as a guide to broaden the knowledge in the fields of blues, funk and jazz standard improvisation. At a jam session on Saturday evening, everybody will have the opportunity to try out what has been learned with the support of a professional band. Also, you will get to see an instrument exhibition hosted by YAMAHA and Musik Aktiv from Spittal/Drau. The newest instruments, mouthpieces and much more can be tested right then and there.

Horst Michael SchafferTarget group:
All instrumentalists or instrumental groupsHorst Michael Schaffer has been working as a musician and teacher in the field of jazz and popular music at home and abroad for over 25 years and by far the most frequently asked question is: “I would also like to be able to improvise. Can you learn that?” YES, anyone can if you fundamentally learn to think in the right direction. Improvisation is the ability to compose in real time and thus express oneself musically and has a lot to do with the perception of oneself. Once the initial inhibition threshold is overcome, the most personal and creative approach to music will certainly develop.
Jazz musicians are said to improvise naturally, but what's behind it? Did you have it in your blood from the start or not? Do jazz musicians hear and receive music differently? Do you think differently? Can I learn that too? Can you even learn to improvise? How does that work and what would it bring me for my music and my playing on the instrument? How can I incorporate this into my teaching as a teacher? These and many other questions will be addressed in this workshop.
