Idea and Owner

Music rushes out the window. Into the depths of the valleys. And high up into the mountains. Nature as far as you can see.

Rehearse, listen to concerts, learn new things – there’s no place better than the Music Center Knappenberg. Because the competence center for training and development opened by the country of Carinthia is located in midst nature on more than 1000 meters above sea level. This very special location makes it the perfect place for everyone who wants to fully concentrate on music. And those who want to jump right into their hiking gear after a rehearsal.

You’d rather go to the lake? Then head over to our second location, the CMA at Ossiach Abbey (opened in 2009), which is located lakefront at Lake Ossiach and offers the ideal infrastructure for music and culture enthusiasts of all genres in combination with the Music Center Knappenberg.

Knappenberg

Close your eyes. And remember. The thumping sound of hammers. The glistening ore. And a young boy named Heinrich Harrer.

The fact that the small parish Hüttenberg was once one of the most important iron work centers in Europe is still illustrated by two large furnaces. Johann-Ernst and Pulcheria, as they are fondly called, have been watching over the town since the 19th century and therefore, are certainly among the main attractions. Especially since the “Heft” was converted into an outdoor museum within the national exhibition “Grubenhunt & Ofensau” in 1995, now offering many insights into the lives of the two buddies.

By the way: One of the people very acquainted with the region was Professor Heinrich Harrer, who is still considered one of the most well-known Austrian mountaineers. He was born right here, in Knappenberg, where the museum pays tribute to many of his countless adventures.
