Lecturer:
Horst Michael Schaffer

Target group:
All instrumentalists or instrumental groups

Horst Michael Schaffer has been working as a musician and teacher in the field of jazz and popular music at home and abroad for over 25 years and by far the most frequently asked question is: “I would also like to be able to improvise. Can you learn that?” YES, anyone can if you fundamentally learn to think in the right direction. Improvisation is the ability to compose in real time and thus express oneself musically and has a lot to do with the perception of oneself. Once the initial inhibition threshold is overcome, the most personal and creative approach to music will certainly develop.

Jazz musicians are said to improvise naturally, but what’s behind it? Did you have it in your blood from the start or not? Do jazz musicians hear and receive music differently? Do you think differently? Can I learn that too? Can you even learn to improvise? How does that work and what would it bring me for my music and my playing on the instrument? How can I incorporate this into my teaching as a teacher? These and many other questions will be addressed in this workshop.
