Intensive course STEIRISCHE HARMONIKA – Katharina Baschinger

“Playing the Steirische Harmonika” sometimes means much more than just playing the Steirische Harmonika – “a blessing and a curse” is sometimes attributed to this instrument with a wink. At the beginning it is relatively easy to learn, later it is difficult to understand and becomes increasingly complex, regionally it applies It is incredibly popular, but it is not very well established in the classical or popular cultural scene. It is probably more closely linked to Alpine folk music than any other instrument, but at the same time it can only be used with increased effort in other styles. My vision is to give the Styrian harmonica ( in addition to its valuable traditional qualities) to open up new possibilities in terms of different playing styles, literary diversity, forms of transmission and professional presentation. What could actually be part of a future path for the Steirische Harmonika will be asked, explained and tested in this two-day intensive course on the Steirische Harmonika.
