In 2026, the renowned Master Class will once again take place, led by none other than the world-famous baritone Thomas Hampson. The Master Class is organized in collaboration with the Gustav Mahler Private University for Music in Klagenfurt (GMPU) and the Millstatt Music Weeks. Thomas Hampson is looking forward to working with young singers: “I want to motivate people and support them in their development.”

Thomas Hampson boasts an unparalleled international career as an opera, concert, and lieder singer. The American baritone performs on leading concert and opera stages worldwide and is celebrated as an “Ambassador of Song.” Millstatt holds a special place in the star baritone’s heart—he performed there for the seventh time in 2023 as part of the Millstatt Music Weeks. In 2026, he will share his extensive knowledge and experience with young vocal talents through this Master Class.

Over the course of four days, young singers will work with Hampson on a varied repertoire under the theme “Lied and Opera.” The highlight of the program is a collaborative concert evening where Thomas Hampson and the young talents will interpret renowned works together.

Thomas Hampson is celebrated not only for his extraordinary achievements as a singer, who has graced the world’s most prestigious stages, but also as a respected teacher and interpreter of Mahler. He has taught at renowned events such as the Heidelberg Spring Festival (Heidelberg Lied Academy) and the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin. Additionally, he is the founder of the Hampson Foundation, which fosters intercultural dialogue and understanding through the art of classical song—poetry in music. Thanks to the new collaboration between CMA, the Gustav Mahler Private University for Music, and the Millstatt Music Weeks, Thomas Hampson has been secured as an instructor for the Vocal Master Class.

The Vocal Master Class is aimed at music students from the first academic level onwards.

Participation
Active Participation: Limited to 8–10 participants.
Passive Participation: Available for three days—July 28th to 30th 2026
Participation in the final concert can be active or passive. The decision is made exclusively by the instructor.
